Doug and I took a ride up PCH down around the nest up a little mountain back road I haven't been on for years. Mullholland eventually took us to the Rock Store where we took a rest and watched Bike racing on the big screen. It was a little overcast in the morning but cleared up by early afternoon, not too cold, not too hot. Went to the HD dealer to order a part Doug broke on his bagger and made our way homeward. A nice time away from the shop and the smell of gasoline.

The redhead is just cuz I get a lot of hits off google and cuz redheads are good/bad!

Well we blew Doug's bike to pieces.

I'll have a few more pics up tomorrow if I make any progress on that thing. The we gotta make a pile that goes to chrome and wait for Barry to finish going through the motor. We are shooting for hippykiller but I think Bornfree is a little more realistic. All depends if I can get any help or not, I have more than this project on my agenda. Stay Tuned....

You may know him from the Long Beach Swap Meet cuz he's been going there for the last 20 years or so, he's the longest standing business there and you probably have bought something from him there at least once.

Oh...Danny also slings ink in his spare time

This is Doug's motor, it was supposedly gone through by the previous owner. Someone did go through it but they didn't pay much attention to clearances and balancing. Going to have to replace the entire rotating assembly except the wheels, what a fuck'n mess!

House Committee passed bill to require EPA to seek independent scientific analysis on the effects of 15 percent ethanol

On February 7, 2012, the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology reported H.R. 3199 favorably, as amended, with a vote of 19 - 7. The bill, introduced by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI), would require the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to seek independent scientific analysis on the effects of 15 percent ethanol blend (E15) gasoline.
The bill now heads for consideration on the House floor. No date has been scheduled.
"The EPA's decision to allow E15 into the marketplace will impact every American who owns a car, lawnmower or boat," Sensenbrenner said. Automakers insist that using E15 will void warranties, lower fuel efficiency and cause premature engine failure. In off-road engines, the effects can even be dangerous for users.

"There are serious concerns that the EPA used only one Department of Energy test and rushed E15's introduction into the marketplace," Sensenbrenner said. "This test was limited in scope and ignored a plethora of evidence – albeit inconvenient evidence for the EPA – that shows E15 gasoline has a negative effect on engines."

The new E15 gasoline formulation may appear at a fueling station near you and you need to be careful where you use this new fuel blend. That is because the EPA, in October 2010, approved E15 for use in model year 2007 and newer light duty vehicles (cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty passenger vehicles). In January 2011, it added model year 2001-2006 light duty vehicles to the approved list.

Riders should pay attention to this list because no motorcycles or ATVs are currently listed.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is concerned about E15 because it burns hotter than gasoline that contains a lesser amount of ethanol. In engines not designed to dissipate that extra heat, damage in the form of premature wear can result. Although this is a concern in all motorcycles, it's particularly problematic for air-cooled engines found in many bikes. Moreover, use of E15 may even void the manufacturer warranty.

Since the approved list includes many light-duty vehicles in use today, refineries, distributors, and fueling stations may choose to offer primarily E15 gasoline because of this action by the EPA. This should concern all motorcyclists and off-highway enthusiasts since this may affect the availability of gasoline with less or no ethanol (E10 or E0).

In a previous AMA alert, Rep. Sensenbrenner also introduced H.R. 748. This bill would prohibit the Administrator of the EPA from authorizing the use of gasoline containing greater than 10 percent ethanol in certain vehicles.

I'm pretty sure this might just be the most Denvers choppers to be in one place at one time, EVER! A great tribute to one of the greatest builder ever.

This is a Trackmaster style frame being developed for FXR/Dyna's by my buddy Rick Cresse at TRI-C Engineering. It's all chromalloy is only slightly larger than it's british counterpart.

The 2012 Von Dutch Award for excellence in hand painted Pin-striping. Metal sculptured Award by Chris Hamilton / Pin-striping on awards by Tommy Itch Otis.

The winner for 2012 is Pinstriper Joel Anthony from Idaho . The owner of the bike is Todd Asin . This is a great example of a 1960's style Triumph bobber custom Motorcycle . And I'm pretty sure the first motorcycle to win this award "I think" . I won it in 1997 and it was a real highlight for me as an artist . The Pin-striping on this bike is mega clean and tight as well as rings true of a period correct style . I wish they could all be winners .The talent and craftsmanship this year was fantastic . The Winner of The Von Dutch Lifetime Achievement Award went to a great artist and one of the kindest souls I have come across in quite a while , "Jack Lindenberger" from Indiana . Today, I rebuilt my Bendix carb.....and a redhead

Unfortunatly my sexy hot looking Mikuni that took me a couple days to figure out and fabricate mounts and manifolds for...is....TOO FUCKING BIG!!!!

My friend Harry, owner and operator of American Turbo Power, or ATP stuck with me for days of rejetting and trouble shooting and that is what we determined. Thus you will notice the K&N air filter with 3 yards of racer tape wrapped around. It was only by restricting the flow of this big assed carb by about 70% that it would run half way decent and actually get up on boost. So, it's scratch the Mikuni and shuffle in the old fashioned Bendix which Harry tells me is the hot ticket for making this thing work really well. This is in fact the carb used by Kawasaki when they produced the Z1R TC, which sold really poorly at the time because guys were not used to idea of a motorcycle with 170 HP, which ain't shit now days but back then it like seeing GOD!

There wee many stories of guys buying those things and bringing them back because they were afraid of them.

Now back to today

I took it apart 2 days ago...

Took them out today, rinsed, blew dry......

Put this $12.00 kit I bought off ebay in there...

And got me this bright shiny fresh Bendix to take the place of that 38 Mikuni.

I'll be mounting it up in there, directly on the turbo, should help with turbo lag as well as give me awesome throttle response. Maybe I'll get it running again by Saturday, FRiday and Sunday I'll be at the Grand National Roadster Show, maybe I'll see you there. Oh and here's your Redhead!

It's been a long year that went by very quickly for me. A lot of trends have passed and new ones begun like they always do. There have been a number of new guys on the block kicking some major ass and getting her done with creativity, quality and imagination. Some of the pics in this slideshow will have been saved more than once because I forget what I have saved and still like the same shit.
Later in the year I started throwing all the new stuff I found no matter be it chopper, bobber, long bike, digger, cafe, Jap, Euro or US. It's just easier for me and I think it shows the diversity of builds going on now. Long bikes and Cafe have become the soup du jour of late and I have both going. I just finished my KZ Turbo and I am beginning my extra long Ironhead build with Slim with the new year.
If you have a new project going and want me to post it up here on my blog send me your pics and some info and I will get them posted. Next year will bring new events, more new builds and more new kats just getting started on their first builds. Take those youngsters under your wing and help them become in the crazy thing we do. There are not enough kids who care about using their hands to create anything these days, let alone custom bikes.
I'll be posting more stolen, barrowed and shot pics of other subject winding up to the new year so keep checking in from time to time, the more the merrier!!! Until then enjoy the slide show, you might see something you missed.

Well here she is fella's, off the rack finally and ready for the final tune. Took her for a spin tonight but either the carb is lean or I have a fuel supply issue so I couldn't get her up on boost. Still needs a new paintjob and some minor cosmetic odds and ends but it's DONE! Now I can get going on the loooong bike I've been thinking of for a loooong time. But first a quicky on a Yammy 400 for my Son Ian so he has something to ride when I come see him in Fresno.

Those New York Jokers build bikes for people who know nothing about bikes or fabrication. With the machinery they have at their disposal they should be able to conjur up something a lot more esthetically pleasing and crafty than the stuff they have been building but...it pays the bills by using those signboards on wheels to draw attention from people who don't know what they are looking at. If there are any bike builders out there that believe these guys are anything other than bolt together mechanics I will be surprised. To give credit where it's due, the kat doing all the sheet metal work at occ knows what's up and I'm sure the only reason he is there is because the money is too good to leave. I also have to admit the stuff junior has come up with lately shows a lot more craftsman ship and taste, he might be a real bad ass some day. He should ask Jesse if he can apprentice for him for a few years. I'm sure in any private conversations they are totally aware of Jesses' contribution and the giant imprint he made on the biker community. If you are new to bikes or just watch the stupid show then your oppinions are meaningless. No matter who "wins" on tv, Jesse's shit will be the real deal and the lacking competition should try to learn a few things about an artist doing what he does best. I for one am very excited to see Jesse back in the shop and doing what gave him the biggest name in bikes since Arlen Ness.

Built by Spitzer Concepts and owned by Jim Mitchell This Roadrunner has to be the slickest ever built. Although it looks like a lot of the trim is stock nothing is. Every piece of this thing has been fabricated and one of the primary materials is carbon fibre. One of the most perfectly chopped tops I have ever seen, Cut to hell but maintaining the original body lines, looking still like a Roadrunner. Full tube chassis, independent suspension at all 4 corners and a giant carbon fibre drenched 528 Hemi under the hood! what more could you ask? I think it's love!

INNOVATOR is probably the most modified Nova in existance. The craftmenship and imagination that went into this car is phenominal. The subtely chopped top to the lowered beltline this thing has a rediculas amount of man power in it's making. There is so much going on with this car that it woulkd take an entire web site to describe. I looked at this thing fr at least an hour.

This Vette is an awesome sight to behold, like most SEMA show cars. This thing is completely over the top, all C-6 underpinnings and subtle body mods, this has got to be one of the best examples of a pro touring vette yet conceived. Well my camera took a shit so I haven't been keeping up with my antics of late. I have been busy though. Turns out the Turbo kit I had didn't actually fit my KZ, I suspect it was made for a Suzuki, so I had to make a few adjustments and make a few pieces. I also was missing an intake manifold and all the gasketing along with all the oil and drainage lines for the turbo itself. I had to drill and tap the oil galley next to the oil pressure sensor and modify the hole size to force more oil to the turbo and a little less to the top end, like plugging the main in smallblock chevy to send more to the crank and less to the rockers.

I had to make this new crosspipe from the header to the exhaust side of the turbo housing, also this short little 3" exhaust, should be able to hear that hairdrier spin up real swell!

Also made up this inlet manifold for the HSR Mikuni I'm using. There wasn't near as much room in there as I thought so I had to bring it out past the drain fitting. I'm also going to have to make a bracket to hold the carb out there in this precarious position. Along with an electric fuel pump mount and throttle cable situation, shouldn't be long now!!!

Sorry about the cell phone pics but there just going to have to do for the time being cuz I'm saving up for SEMA! Maybe I'll get a new one there.

I've had this turbo kit waiting in the wings for a couple of years. Just biding it's time in the back of my mind until I decided to push it into service. I had several turbo kaws in the 80's when we used to street race these things. This one will not be that radical, the motor is completely unmodified with cast pistons and 9:1 compression. On pump gas I won't be able to run much more then 7 pounds, on good fuel maybe 10 without melting it down. I figure I'm looking at about 150-170 HP. Still not a Busa beater but plenty fun. You'll notice in the pic that the pipe don't line up at all with this set up, I think this must have been a Suzuki kit. Modifications were in order so I got out the grinder and the welder and the grinder and the cutter etc etc, a little high heat black and voila'!

Here is an early Sportster "turtle" Tanks I'm putting on the block. I've had this sitting around quite a while and I always wanted to build a Sporty with this tank but times is tough so somethings gotta go. I'm offering it here first at a discount till Monday then it will go on Ebay.

Well it's that time of year again! Last years Slow Ride has become this years Rapid Ride. I was really looking forward to making this trip with all my buds but unforseen circumstances raised their ugly head and it just ain't happening this year. Here are a few pics from last years SLO RIDE, we had a helluva time even though Dougs Sporty wound up in the back of a truck and Jason had to stop every 40 miles for gas. Now looking forward to SLAB CITY!!!

Went to the aircraft surplus and found a real nice adjustable link with super bitchen rod ends.

Found out my shift ar m wasn't long enough so had to add an extension. This is temporary, after I'm sure everything works proper like, I'll weld a permanent extension and drill a new hole to move the pedal up and away from the ground. It shifts now and I think I'm there but the proof will be riding it and making sure before I make it all final. I wouldn't do this again for less than 1000 bucks, this has been a bitch!

There ya go, the linkage will be out of view for the most part, had to manicure the shifter arm some and will have to do it some more to make it esthetically pleasing, maybe a make a new one altogether to match the other side, wasn't sure I would have room for a round bar lever when I started.

Almost there, gotta go buy some rod ends tomorrow and make the linkage. Unfortunetly it's now 1 up and 4 down. Anything else would have been to hard or too ugly.

Tose are 5/8ths lugs, that shit ain't going nowhere. I also put some big hairy gussets on there as well. I want his 240 lb ass to be able to stand on these bastards.

I stole a pedal out of a ugly ass forward control set up I had laying around the shop. Going to cut off that extra bit with the hole in it and use it on the bottom for the lever.

Tucked up and under, hidden as best I could. I'll weld a lug on the end and bolt on a heim end. The other end will go to the shifter with another heim end. Hopefully I'll find a nice link with reverse threads for easy adjustment. Never know what you might find at the surplus...

Don't look so bad, and it will be more comfy, as much as I hate admit it.

Been trying to figure out what to do with all these stickers, so I sprayed hammertone on my welder and arranged them thus...

Okay, so Doug has been bugging the holy shit out of me because his pegs are too high (snivel snivel) "I want forward controls(kicking his feet)" I just couldn't bring myself to put those hokey big ass chrome CC, hanging all out, double ugly fucking forward controls with their stupid hangy out linkage. So Finally I gave in or he was going to trailer this fucker everywhere this summer. The only way this was going to happen on this particular bike was going to have to be floorboards, so here is the installation on the brake side ( the easiest side first). Took me a few days to figure out how I was going to attack it, I thunk the pics are self explanatory. I still like the mids better but this ain't to bad, the other side is gonna be a fucking bitch, stay tuned.
